UK / South African drumming workshop via live video link

During the FIFA World Cup 2010, Inspire-works & Street Action organised a unique drumming workshop with 20 pupils from Twyford High School in London and 10 South African street children in Durban South Africa who learnt drumming together via a live video link. 16th notes accents on Hi-Hats and snare drum

Just messin’ about with 16th notes and 16th note triplets. Rusty but I enjoy it!
The hardest for me is stick control as the hotrods I am using have no bounce. So faster notes (32nd or triplet 16th) are individually played, there are no rolls. Filmed April 2008 in Belfast.

Djembe in Hartebeespoort

On my search for another djembe, I was in Hartebeespoort. The first few djembes did not sound great as they were not tuned. I played a couple till I saw one that I thought would be the right one. In the next video you see the djembe I eventually purchased and am very happy with.

Early mornin’ grooves

Some early morning grooves, albeit shaky and slightly ‘rusty’, with some potential.

In an attempt to warm up my hands, I just jammed a bit with the camera on. Thought you might like some of my ideas. Hopefully you do! Let me speak using my drums, hear what I have to say. Thank you.

Edited Senegal video

This is the video I use in my workshops to show kids my time in Senegal in February 2009. It has a lot of footage left out due to time constraints. I hope it shows a bit of my time there and the incredible experience. Not being allowed to film Mamady Keita teaching or performing, there is not much in the footage of Mamady himself unfortunately! Enjoy it though, a little bit of beautiful Africa!

A basic swing 6/8 rhythm. Starts with H/H playing 123456. Bass is on 1. Snare is on 4. Then play bass on 1, 3 and 6.

Basic reggae beat

Here is a basic reggae rhythm. You can find this rhythm/pattern being used in the Grade 3 Rockschool book. The track is called Trenchtown.
